About Joshua M. Ammerman, MD
Doctor Joshua Ammerman is a board-certified neurosurgeon at Washington Neurosurgical Associates. In addition, he is Chief of the Neurosurgery Section and Chair of the Department of Surgery at Sibley Memorial Hospital. Academically, he is Assistant Professor at the George Washington University School of Medicine and an Adjunct Assistant Clinical Professor of Neurosurgery at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.
His clinical interests include minimally invasive spinal surgery, complex spinal surgery, traumatic brain and spinal injury, pituitary disorders, brain metastasis, and von Hippel-Lindau disease.
Dr. Ammerman received his medical degree with distinction at George Washington University in Washington, DC. There he completed his internship in the Department of Surgery and residency in the Department of Neurological Surgery. Special residency training took place in the Department of Neurological Surgery at Children’s National Medical Center. Under the tutelage of Edward H. Oldfield, MD, Dr. Ammerman completed a Clinical Research/Neuroncology fellowship program in the Surgical Neurology Branch of the National Institutes for Neurological Disorders and Stroke, National Institutes of Health at Bethesda, MD.
In addition, Dr. Ammerman has received honors, including Washington Consumers’ Checkbook Top Doctors and Washingtonian Magazine’s Top Doctors. He is an active member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, Congress of Neurological Surgeons, American College of Surgeons, and the Osler Society's Washington Chapter.
Furthermore, Dr. Ammerman has published his research in prestigious medical journals, contributed textbook chapters, and is active as an ad hoc reviewer for several peer-reviewed journals.
