I'm at my wits end and need help

Started by Nell7185 on 11/24/2017 8:07am

Currently I am home and not working due to this current situation. In September, I took a nasty fall due and sprained my right ankle. Went to ER and got diagnosed with high ankle sprain. They wrapped up my foot, gave me a boot with an air cast. I was able to continue walking but had to do so with a cane. A month into the injury, my left leg grew weak and at times would give out. I thought that maybe (due to the weight because I am a big guy,) since I hurt my right foot that maybe my leg grew weak because of the weight I had to put on it. Well things got worse. I would get up while at work and would literally have to stand up in a spot while leaning on something to gather strength before I proceeded to move. Went to ER again on October 12, and all they said was knee sprain possibly. Gave me naproxen, and a knee immobilizer and sent me on my way. Well after that. Went back to er later the following week because I fell again. This time, I heard something pop. I couldn't get up, my leg would give out immediately if I placed any type of weight on it. Er sent me home again after taking xrays and finding no broken bones. Told me it was a sprain and sent me on my way. Well I'm concerned. I applied for state insurance and gave it to me immediately. I am currently using crutches to walk because I can barely stand up without feeling off balance. Had an appointment with the joint specialist and to start me off he gave me cortisone injection in each knee and took xrays of my back and both my knees. I have an appointment on December 19th with him again but what does that do for me now. My appointment with my primary care physician is today as I hope she will be doing blood work because 2 wks ago diagnosed me with high blood pressure. Prescribed lisinopril. But I need answers. I'm 32 and I can't walk. It went downhill all starting with the ankle sprain. Now it's the day after Thanksgiving, my lower back hurts, the top of my left shoulder hurts, my neck hurts and I'm very frustrated to have all this happen right now. Any ideas as to why all of a sudden I can't walk, have heavy legs, numbness from thighs to my toes, pain in my back. I'm afraid and don't know what to do. I'm going to my primary today at 1pm and I'm going to tell her my issues. Please I need input. I feel at my wits end and cried over and over. Help me

Also forgot to mention frequent urination and the inability to hold my bowels before making it to the restroom. I now eat and get up in the am to sit on the toilet when I get the slightest rumble in my stomach because I can't hold it or speed walk because it's hard to do with crutches.

Hello, Nell7185--We are so sorry to read about the pain you've been going through. We aren't medical professionals, but it sounds like the bulk of what you're experiencing are neurologic symptoms. These types of symptoms are nerve-related, and may include numbness, weakness, tingling--and in serious cases, loss of bladder and bowel control.

Our best advice is to make an appointment with a neurologist, as these specialists are best trained to identify and understand what these nerve-related symptoms mean. Your loss of bladder and bowel control warrants immediate consultation, so we recommend mentioning those symptoms when you make the appointment--perhaps it will help you get an appointment sooner.

If you need help finding a neurologist near you, our doctor finder tool is a great place to start: https://www.spineuniverse.com/locate/spe...

We hope this information helps--please keep us posted on how you're doing!
