Severe dizziness after cervical fusion

Started by Dawnmarie on 05/06/2018 1:22pm

Hi everyone! I am a newbie. I just had a cervical fusion (C4-5) done on 4/13. Eighteen years ago I had C5-6 & C6-7 fused. My recovery has been great as far as not having any neck pain. Just the occasional aches in my lower neck & shoulders, which isn’t a big deal. I’ve been wearing a soft neck collar 24/7 since surgery & will continue wearing it for at least another 5 weeks. I’m also using a bone stimulator for 30 minutes once a day. My problem is this...about 1 week post-op I started experiencing nonstop throbbing of my entire head. I wouldn’t really classify it as a migraine but just a dull headache. I did have headaches prior to surgery but just up the back of my head. I was told they were a result of my neck problems & location of the problems. Other than that I am not a person who gets headaches. These headaches are very debilitating! They are minimal when I’m at rest but as soon as I stand to walk I am extremely dizzy, nauseated & very unstable on my feet. I am now on my third anti-inflammatory with no relief. Pain medication is of no help either. A CT scan of my head was normal. My surgeon & family doctors have no clue what is going on. Is there anyone else out there that has experienced these problems? I’d much rather have the pain over something wrong with my head!
