Anyone with Juvenile Disc Disorder?

Started by faithfor3 on 01/31/2019 4:28pm

My son , 20, has been diagnosed with Degenerative Disc Disease when he was 17. He had always complained of neck pain for years. The doctors finally sent him to get an MRI on his neck which revealed "degenerative discs". Doctor basically said my son has a neck of a much older man with bone spurs and bulging discs. My son is devastated and we don't know what kind of doctor to go to for help: neurosurgeon perhaps? He's active in sports but always complaining of joint pain and is always on the verge of dehydration. He went to a PCP for a full line of blood work to see if it was something else that was causing the issues. Blood work was normal. He's getting depressed that he can't join the military or do many things he thinks he should be able to do, without pain. Anyone have any advice on how to get this issue properly diagnosed? Why would a healthy young man have degenerative discs? Yes, he's been in a minor accident so that's what the doctor assumed was the problem. But what do we do now? Thanks, Cindy /St. Louis
