Dr. Shepherd is a Layton, Utah native and earned his Bachelor of Science degree at Weber State University in Kansas City, Missouri. He received his medical training at Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences. While attending medical school he also obtained an MBA in Health Care Leadership from Rockhurst University.

Following his medical school training he completed residency in Anesthesiology at Saint Louis University, where he also served as Chief Resident. He completed his formal medical training with a Fellowship in Pain Management at Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, Georgia.

Dr. Shepherd is a member of the American Society of Anesthesiology, the Spine intervention Society, and the American Academy of Pain Medicine.
